CONWAY - Rain that fell heavy at times on Saturday pushed the Saco River above the 9-foot flood stage in the wee hours of the morning on Sunday.

By 2 a.m. Sunday the Saco River was at 9.39 feet, with the river spilling over into the area along the floodplain. While most of the floodplain is used for agricultural purposes, two commerical campgrounds and a private beach community fall within the river's path during high water.

At Transvale Acres on Sunday morning, the Moat Brook flooded and cut off the road into the lower sections of the neighborhood. The Conway community was severly damaged during tropicsl storm Irene. During that storm the river cresented at over 17 feet.
