MANCHESTER — Locally run farm stands are expected to open later this month in Manchester and Derry, offering locally grown vegetables and produce to consumers.

The Manchester farm stands will be at the Elmwood Gardens housing project on Tuesdays from 4 to 7 p.m. and at Southern New Hampshire Services, 40 Pine St., on Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m.

A farm stand is also expected to open at Rockingham Community Action, 9 Crystal Ave., Derry.

Fresh Start Farms hopes to have the farm stands open by the second week of June. It is working through licensing requirements with the city of Manchester, said Mukhtar Idhow, executive director of the Manchester-based Organization for Refugee and Immigrant Success.

His organization oversees the cultivation of 7 acres of farmland in Dunbarton, thanks to a federal grant that helps to connect refugees and immigrants to local agriculture.

The grant also provides for marketing efforts such as the farm stands.

As an introductory offer, Fresh Start Farms is offering $5 worth for produce for $3 in food stamps.
