MANCHESTER — The Queen City Rotary Club has awarded its annual Officer of the Year award to Manchester Police Detective Michelle Orr, who is currently assigned as the School Resource Officer at McLaughlin Middle School.

Orr, who joined the Manchester Police Department in 2008, facilitates the Media Power Youth Program bringing parents, teachers and students together to empower youth to lead healthy, safe lives through the smart use of media.

An avid runner, she often runs with the McLaughlin cross country team, establishing relationships with many of the runners and their families.

Outside of work, Orr is involved with Special Olympics of New Hampshire, mentoring athletes to compete in the annual games. She is also involved in fundraising for the Special Olympics, participating in the Torch Run and the Penguin Plunge, with the MPD team raising more than $5,000 this year.

The Officer of the Year Award, presented to Orr by retired Manchester Police Chief and Queen City Rotarian John Jaskolka, was established to recognize local law enforcement officers who go above and beyond the call of duty to enhance the lives of local youth.
