MERRIMACK - A statewide police alert was issued Friday morning for a Merrimack man, considered armed and dangerous, who is wanted for assaulting his mother and stabbing a man, authorities said.

Cory Daley, 29, was arrested Thursday night on a criminal mischief charge after police went to his Baboosic Lake area home for a domestic dispute. He was processed at the police station where bail was set at $1,500 personal recognizance. He left with another family member and was told not to return to the property or have any contact with his mother.

Just after midnight, however, police said Daley returned home and assaulted his 46-year-old mother and Andrew Stamm, 32, of Merrimack, an acquaintance.

His mother ran out of the house to a neighbor's where police were called. Once she left, however, police said Daley escalated his attack on Stamm, stabbing him in the head and arms with a knife. Daley chased after Stamm when he, too, ran out of the house and to the same neighbor's home.

Daley fled the area prior to officers arriving, police said.

Stamm was taken to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening, according to Capt. Peter Albert. He was later released.

Police searched the wooded area overnight with assistance from state police K-9 units but did not find Daley.

Investigators believe he is still in the area. He is described as 5-foot-11, 190 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a green T-shirt with graphics on the front, light-colored mesh athletic shorts and what is described as old dress shoes. Police said he also is unshaven with a couple days of growth.

Police continue to search the area but do not believe Daley is a threat to anyone else due to the personal nature of the attack. However, police said the weapon used in the attack has not been recovered so he is considered armed and dangerous as well as potentially desperate and unpredictable.

Anyone seeing or having contact with Daley is advised not to confront him, but to immediately contact Merrimack authorities.

Police alerted the public of the incident through the Nixle alert system.

A statewide alert for law enforcement was issued for Daley's arrest under the 12-hour domestic violence laws. Albert said police expect to obtain warrants Friday morning for Daley's arrest on a variety of charges, including first-degree assault.
