H.S. playoffs roundup: Hanover lacrosse team advances

The third-seeded Hanover boys' lacrosse team broke open a 5-2 halftime lead with a six-goal third quarter and beat Nashua North 15-6, in a Division I boys' lacrosse tournament quarterfinal on Thursday.

Host Hanover, 11-3, clinched a berth in Sunday's 5 p.m. Division I semifinal at Bedford High School. Christian Wolter and Ryan Brigham paced the winners with three goals and two assists, while Christian Johansen, Jack Noordsy and Alex Krass contributed multiple-goal games. James Washington made 10 saves in net.

The Titans ended their season at 7-7 in league play. Marc LaVine and Steve Crocker each scored twice, Adam Murphy and Tom Haller added single markers, and Spencer Rancourt stopped 12 shots.

Bishop Guertin 14, Manchester Central 7: At Nashua, Paul Spinney and Dom St. Laurent each tallied three goals as the Cardinals (16-3) eliminated the Little Green (6-11, 7-12 overall). Jacob Whitmore led Central with three goals and Little Green goalie Marquis Sutton stopped 15 shots.

Division II

Bedford 17, Dover 4: At Bedford, Tyler Sullivan had five goals and an assist, while Jason Campbell and Nate Larivee each added three. Jared Hornsby totaled another five points for Bedford (17-0). Dover finished its season at 7-8.

St. Thomas 8, Goffstown 7: At Dover, Noah Schnaegerk scored three goals to pace third-seeded St. Thomas past sixth-ranked Goffstown. Caleb Kane and Sax Morrison added two goals apiece for St. Thomas (12-3), while Jason Hudon and Brad Chapdelaine countered with two goals each for Goffstown (10-5).

Division III

Hollis-Brookline 16, Monadnock 2: At Hollis, Connor Moynihan dominated with six goals as third-ranked Hollis-Brookline (15-2) breezed past sixth-ranked Monadnock (11-5). Alvaro Guzman saved nine and Trevor Kerkhoff chipped in with three goals and four assists in the victory.

Derryfield 9, Windham 1: At Manchester, undefeated Derryfield (15-0) received four goals from Arthur Krogman while Matt Milne had three goals and one assist. Grant Alenson added four assists. Anthony Gallo had the lone goal for No. 8 Windham, which finished its season at 11-6.

Baseball
Division I

Timberlane 11, Pinkerton 5: At Plaistow, the Owls capitalized on seven Astros errors to advance to the quarterfinals. Josh David had two hits, while scoring twice and driving in another paid while Justin Bundzinski added two hits, a run, and an RBI of his own for Timberlane (14-5). Drew Sutherland and Ken Viehoff each had two hits for No. 12 Pinkerton of Derry (9-10).

Concord 7, Nashua South 3: At Concord, Ben Bengston highlighted a five-run, first inning rally with a two-run single. Mitch Hayes and Graham McIntire each had an RBI single in the frame. Pat Cannon, McIntire. Hayes and Alex Bashios each had two hits to pace an 11-hit attack for Concord, 15-4. South (6-13) had two hits from Jared Maloney.

Merrimack 1, Alvirne 0 (10 inns.): In Merrimack, Jackson King scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning on a wild pitch. Merrimack starter Tom Hudon fanned 12 batters and reliever Matt Wojiak gained the mound win. Merrimack is 14-5 and Alvirne ends its season at 7-13.

Division II

Pembroke 6, ConVal 2: At Peterborough, Autrey Gates hit a two-run double to open things up in the seventh and struck out nine on the mound. Shane St. Onge had three walks, three steals, and two runs for Pembroke (10-7). Ivan Clough took the loss for ConVal (9-8).

Goffstown 7, Souhegan 3: Chris Garrison had the hit of a lifetime. Garrison's walk-off grand slam lifted Goffstown to a Division II prelim baseball win against Souhegan of Amherst Thursday at St. Anselm College.

On a 1-1 count in a 3-3 game, Garrison belted an offering some 360-feet over the left centerfield fence giving the Grizzlies (15-3) the victory. Winning pitcher Tyler Barss, on 106 pitches, fired a complete game two-hitter. He walked five but fanned 12. Souhegan starter Eric Howard hurled a six-hitter in a complete game effort. Adam Routhier and Barss each had an RBI against the 8-9 Sabers.

Goffstown will host Bedford on Saturday at 4 p.m. at St. Anselm College.

Division III

Hopkinton 6, Mascenic 1: At Hopkinton, Sam Bonifant improved to 8-1 in his complete game victory, adding two hits at the dish. Matt McCormick was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Sam McManus had two RBIs and a double for top-seeed Hopkinton (17-1).

Jared Traffie had an RBI single in the sixth for No. 17 Mascenic of New Ipswich (6-13).

Campbell 2, Stevens 0: At Litchfield, third-seeded Campbell's Cody Caron and Cade Lacroix each had run-scoring hits in the first inning and Travis Manning allowed just three hits in a shutout of 19th-ranked Stevens of Claremont (4-14). Caron finished with two hits and Manning struck out four for Campbell (14-4).

Division IV

Portsmouth Christian 10, Derryfield 0: At Dover, Sean McKenna held the Cougars bats at bay, allowing just three hits over five innings of work.

Ryan McKenna pitched a hitless inning of relief and added a solo homer in the first and Mitch Colizzi was 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the Eagles (15-0).

Nick Regan pitched well in the loss for Derryfield (3-14).
