Danbury man to go on trial for Deerfield home invasion
BRENTWOOD — A 39-year-old man charged with participating in a Deerfield home invasion has decided to go on trial months after a woman pleaded guilty to helping him, court documents indicate.
Christopher Martin of Danbury is new scheduled to go on trial the week of Oct. 15 in Rockingham County Superior Court for aiding two others with the June 29 break-in and robbery.
He was charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary and theft by unauthorized taking.
Martin is accused of picking the home of Arthur Cutter of Deerfield to rob on the night of June 29, giving his two partners a layout of the home and what valuables were inside, according to indictments.
The trio was after cash and guns inside the home, prosecutors said.
Martin’s case will tap expert testimony to question some records prosecutors plan to use as evidence, according to court papers filed by defense lawyers.
One alleged partner, Jacob Palo, 35, of Concord recently asked a judge to throw out statements he made to police after his arraignment.
Palo led police on a pursuit through five towns, using two vehicles he had stolen after fleeing from the home he allegedly burglarized with his two partners, according to prosecutors.
The chase ended on Route 102 in Chester after a truck Palo allegedly stole crashed into an Epping police cruiser, police said.
Before fleeing, Palo allegedly shot a 9mm handgun inside the home, trying to get Cutter to open a locked safe, according to prosecutors. Palo is charged with 23 felonies related to the break-in and flight from police.
Sherri Avnet, 32, pleaded guilty to single counts of conspiracy to commit theft and conspiracy to commit burglary.
Prosecutors say she acted as the getaway driver and never went in the home.
She will be sentenced on June 29, a year to the day after the late-night burglary.
