PUC approves Liberty Energy’s purchase of National Grid energy, gas business

CONCORD — The state Public Utilities Commission has approved the sale of National Grid’s New Hampshire electric and gas distribution businesses to Liberty Energy NH, a subsidiary of Oakville, Ontario-based Algonquin Power and Utilities Corp.

Liberty Utilities said in a press release Thursday it has received all required federal and state regulatory approvals, and it expects the deal to close during the last week of June or early July.

PUC staff, the companies and other parties reached an agreement in April to support the $285 million transaction.

The sale will affect 126,000 New Hampshire electric and natural gas customers.
