Fetal homicide bill heads to governor
CONCORD - The House sent to the governor House Bill 217 that would make the death of an unborn child subject to murder charges.
The bill applies the laws to a “fetus” just beyond the embryo stage, at about eight weeks.
Doctors and licensed medical professionals who perform abortions would not face charges under the bill, supporters say.
Opponents called the bill way too draconian for New Hampshire and said it could make a father driving on a snowy day liable to homicide charges.
The House voted 210-108 to pass the bill, while the Senate voted 18-6 to approve the bill.
The House vote is not enough to override a possible veto from Gov. John Lynch.
