CONCORD – House legislators have agreed to go along with the Senate version of a bill that would require students entering University System of New Hampshire colleges to sign an affidavit that they are legal residents of the United States in order to receive in-state tuition.

House and Senate members signed off on House Bill 1383 at a conference committee Wednesday.

The main Senate backer of the bill proposed the affidavit requirement as a less costly alternative to the House version of the bill, which would have required the university system to determine whether students paying in-state tuition are legal U.S. residents.

The committee passed the bill without discussion. It must be voted on the by the full House before going to the governor.
