NASHUA — Skateboard enthusiasts are stunned at the news that Granite Skate, the city’s only indoor skateboard park, will close next month.

“It is with great sadness that we are closing our doors at Granite Skate. Our last day of business is June 10,” a short message posted on the park’s website and Facebook page says.

The business opened 14 months ago at a vacant warehouse at 22 Charron Ave. The 25,000-square-foot indoor skateboard park is owned by Laura Smith and Kenny Azorian of Merrimack.

In a statement released Tuesday, Laura Azorian said that the unusually mild weather this winter, coupled with a lack of precipitation, may have hurt business during its peak season from November to May.

On Granite Skate’s Facebook page, Azorian said she is hopeful that Granite Skate will be able to reopen elsewhere.

“We are looking for investors or grants, and are working with different agencies trying to relocate,” she said.

The ideal location would be 10,000 to 15,000 square feet with ceilings of 18 feet or higher, she said.

“What a shame. Good place. Good people. Way too short-lived,” Jonny Razzini wrote about he closing on the park’s message site. Several other skateboard fans echoed his sentiments, with Garret Allen commenting, “By far one of my favorite parks I’ve ever skated.”

The park featured realistic elements such as concrete and granite ledges, Jersey barriers, bank ramps and park benches. Now, the ramps and rails are being sold.

“Starting June 11, we will be selling our ramps and various items. Please refer to our website for more details,” she wrote, adding ramps, rails, office equipment, tables and pro-shop items are available. In addition, ramps will be cut to desired sizes, Smith said in her posting, adding no reasonable offer will be refused.
