Police looking for man who approached 5-year-old girl
DUNBARTON — Police are looking for information after a report of a man approaching a 5-year-old girl playing in her yard.
According to police, the girl was playing in her yard on Gorham Pond Road Thursday at about 7 p.m. when a man walking a black dog approached her, asked her name and if her parents were home.
When the girl told him her parents were home, she said the man walked away and police said he was last seen walking on South Stark Highway toward Goffstown.
Police said the man walked more than 150 feet from the road to where he spoke to the girl, and also knew that she had an infant sister, who wasn’t outside at the time.
“We do not know what the man’s intentions were, and therefore, we need to err on the side of caution,” said Police Chief Daniel Sklut.
“He may have simply been checking on the welfare of the child, or his intentions may have been worse — we won’t know until we have a chance to talk with him,” Sklut said.
The man was described as being in his 50s or 60s, 5’7” to 5’10” tall, with short hair.
He was wearing dark blue or black pants, possibly with red printing or graphics on it. According to police, he was wearing glasses and had a “slouch.” The dog with him was described as possibly a pit-bull breed.
Police from Dunbarton and Goffstown searched the area but were unable to find anyone fitting the man’s description.
Dunbarton Police are asking anyone with any information to contact the station at 774-5500.
