Jail inmate accused of attempting murder-for-hire
A Pembroke man was arrested in Merrimack County jail earlier this month for allegedly hiring someone to commit murder.
Brian K. Schultz, 65, of 235 Dearborn Road, Pembroke, was arrested May 7 while he was an inmate at the Boscawen jail and charged with criminal solicitation to commit murder, authorities said Thursday.
Schultz's alleged plan was foiled. Authorities would not say who the intended target was.
State police investigators and the Merrimack County Attorney Scott W. Murray released few details about the case, which county prosecutors are preparing to present to a grand jury.
Police said the delay in publicly announcing the arrest was because the case remains under active investigation. Affidavits supporting the arrest warrant remain sealed.
Police said they arrested Schultz before the investigation was completed because they “thought there was a safety issue.”
Schultz is being held at Merrimack County jail on $250,000 cash bail.
It could not be determined Thursday what charges Schultz was serving a sentence on when he was arrested May 7.
