Dover man dies after being struck by pickup
DOVER – A 77-year-old local man succumbed to injuries he suffered after being struck by a pickup truck downtown Tuesday.
Police, firefighters and emergency personnel responded at 12:17 p.m. after Eben Hilton, 77, of Dover, was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet, driven by Alan Plaistead, 84, of Berwick, Maine. The incident occurred as Hilton was crossing Main Street west to east near the Taste of India restaurant, according to Police Capt. William Breault.
“There is a crosswalk nearby, about 100 feet away,” Breault said, adding no charges have been filed at this time.
Breault said Hilton, who suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries, was transported to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, where he later died.
“We're still conducting the investigation,” said Breault, who added police determined speed, alcohol and the weather were not involved in the incident.
