Return guests at Liquid Planet will find new slides
Two new speed slides will greet visitors to Liquid Planet Water Park when it officially opens June 23.
It is the latest expansion at the five-year-old park, and owner Kevin Dumont is sure it will attract adrenaline-seeking tweens, teens and adults who visit each summer.
The new slides will be about 40 feet tall and shoot straight down into a pool of water, unlike the current slides that loop in slow swirls to the bottom.
Dumont said children will need to be at least four feet tall to ride the speed slides.
“It is really for adrenaline-based tweens, teens and adults,” he said.
He said the slides will have their own line, which can accommodate about 120 people per hour.
Liquid Planet has added a water or dry land attraction each year since opening in 2008.
Last year, a tandem zip line was added that takes guests soaring over the Spray Ground, past the water slides, and over the spring-fed lake to another platform on the far side of the park for $5 a ride.
Zip lines have become popular in the North Country, but Dumont said there is not a lot of competition for it in the southern part of the state.
The zip line will open Saturday, May 26, for weekends until the park's offi cial opening on June 23.
The park is also adding events this year to mark its five-year anniversary and to draw a more diversified audience.
Special perks are offered to visitors who sign up to be VIPs on the park's website, and two fireworks displays are planned for Saturday, June 30, and Saturday, July 7.
The park will be open on Friday nights this year for adults 21 and older only from 6 to 9 p.m. for $5 per person.
The park will also be open again on Saturday nights and will feature themed weekend activities, including live entertainment.
The children's summer camp is currently taking enrollment. The cost is $225 a week per child.
In addition to having the park to themselves for an hour each morning, campers get to ride the zipline and swim in the manmade lake, take nature walks, participate in sporting events, arts and crafts and other activities.
Liquid Planet Water Park was named Business of the Year by the Raymond Chamber of Commerce for 2012.
