ROCHESTER - A Farmington woman, who was eating while driving, along with her passenger ended up at the hospital after she crashed her Cadillac into a utility pole, according to a police press release.

The crash happened about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday on North Main Street near Burger King. Police said Kristen L. Temple, 29, was driving a 2005 Cadillac Deville south on North Main Street when she swerved to her right and hit a utility pole, splitting it in two and flipping the Cadillac onto the driver's side.

She and Sara Gatzimas, 28, of Farmington, were helped out of the wrecked car by bystanders.

Both were taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries described as not life-threatening.

The road was shut down for several hours until the utility pole could be replaced by crews from PSNH, Verizon and Metrocast Cable. Power also was out in the surrounding area during that time.

Temple was arrested and charged with driving after suspension, suspended registration and negligent driving, stemming from her being distracted from eating, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
