Coyote attack was first for New Hampshire
Coyotes in the Northeast are the descendants of western coyotes that began spreading east in the early 1900s after wolves were extirpated in the Midwest and East. They followed a route that took them north of the Great Lakes, where they interbred with wolves in Ontario. As a result, eastern coyotes tend to be larger than their western cousins, and they exhibit some behaviors that are more typical of wolves, such as hunting in packs.
