No contest plea for Jaffrey mother
MILFORD — A Jaffrey mother pleaded no contest to a charge of aggravated driving under the influence after being arrested for driving while intoxicated with her 2-year-old child in the car.
In September, Misty Chase, 23, was pulled over for allegedly speeding on Route 101 in Milford and was arrested when it was discovered that she had been drinking and her child was in the car.
Following the arrest, Chase failed to show up at three different arraignment dates in Milford Circuit Court and was charged with bail jumping. A warrant was issued for her arrest.
Upon her arrest, Chase was held on $25,000 cash bail, and in Milford Circuit Court on Wednesday afternoon she pleaded no contest to the aggravated DUI charge, and guilty to one charge of bail jumping. She has spent a month behind bars.
She was given a one-year suspended sentence for the bail jumping conviction, has lost her license for two years and is required to take a seven-day alcohol education program.
If she fails to complete the program or is arrested for any offense in the next two years, Chase likely will be forced to serve the jail time, Judge Martha Crocker said.
“We will not renegotiate that,” Crocker warned.
Chase has more legal issues ahead.
Dec. 20, Chase allegedly was driving a Jeep Cherokee in Hollis when the vehicle went off the road, flipped over and rolled down an embankment on Route 122, Hollis Police Chief Jay Sartell said.
Chase and her two passengers, a 22-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy, allegedly fled the scene. Following an investigation, Chase was charged with a Class B felony — conduct after an accident — because one of her passengers was injured in the crash.
She also was charged with making a false report about an accident and operating after suspension. Chase has not yet been tried on those charges.
Chase recently was convicted of a single charge of simple assault in Jaffrey Peterborough Circuit Court.
