North Conway man accused of rape
NORTH CONWAY - A local man is under arrest, accused of breaking into a woman’s home, hiding in her bedroom closet and then raping her.
John F. Weeman, 35, of 3 Cross St., was arrested Tuesday night, several hours after the 21-year-old woman, who had a restraining order against him, alleged he broke into her Depot Street home and sexually assaulted her.
The woman came home about 5:30 p.m. to discover Weeman hiding in her bedroom closet, according to a police press release.
Police Chief Edward Wagner said Weeman broke into her home, hid in the closet and then attacked her.
He allegedly held her against her will for about two hours, prevented her from calling for help or leaving, raped her and threatened to kill her. The woman ultimately was able to flee the home, seeking refuge at a relative’s home on Depot Street.
Police said the woman obtained a domestic violence restraining order on Jan. 23 that barred Weeman from having any contact with her.
Weeman was arrested about three hours after the woman reported the assault. He is charged with kidnapping, aggravated felonious sexual assault, burglary, criminal threatening and violating a restraining order.
He is being arraigned Wednesday morning in 3rd Circuit Court, Conway District.
