Neighbor alerts police to Salem burglary; two arrested packing car with loot
SALEM - A neighbor called police Wednesday night after seeing people removing property from a Hawkins Glen Road home, whose owners had left on vacation.
When officers arrived, they found a silver Ford escort parked in the driveway of 62 Hawkins Glen Road home, packed front to back and floor to ceiling with property - jewelry, TVs, appliances and even a bag full of food - said Deputy Shawn J. Patten. A toaster was dangling out a window, he said.
The officers saw someone run through the home and try to hide in the basement. They ordered the intruder to come out and Robyn DiChicco, 28, of Lawrence, Mass., complied. She was arrested without incident.
A second person, identified as Michael Green, 36, of Salem, was located on the property and arrested, after a brief struggle.
He had a commemorative desk paperweight from 1957 Lawrence High School Football Hall of Fame inductee and other items taken on him that were taken from the home, according to police.
Patten said Thursday morning police have yet to empty the car of all the items taken which included “tons” of expensive jewelry, coins, TVs, small appliances and a bag full of frozen food, including pancakes and waffles. “They emptied the fridge,” Patten said. The home was completely ransacked.
Patten said investigators believe the burglary could be linked to an individual who is familiar with the homeowners and who is currently incarcerated.
“If we prove a link, then that individual will be facing charges,” he said.
Green is charged with burglary and theft, both felonies, and resisting arrest. DiChicco was arrested on a burglary charge.
Both were arraigned Thursday morning in Derry District Court. Green was ordered held on $35,000 cash only bail while DiChicco's bail was set at $10,000 cash only.
