Top 10 Things To DoIt's February already and it's time to have some fun! Get your furry hat on and take the kids out to an indoor ice rink, go snowshoeing in the north country or hit the slopes for some adrenaline filled fun! We'll also share with you all the goings-on taking place indoors. Oh, and as if you could - don't forget Superbowl Sunday is here! Come participate - or be a spectator - at the Special Olympics New Hampshire 13th Annual Penguin Plunge at Hampton Beach this weekend. On Saturday, the high schools will take the plunge into the icy Atlantic. Then on Sunday, almost 1,000 costumed participants will head into the frigid water for the Special Olympics' largest fundraiser all year. The theme this year is "Viva Las Vegas" so the costumes will be colorful and funny. There will be a costume parade preceding the event. • More info |

The Capitol Steps are back in New Hampshire and they promise another evening of bipartisan lampooning. This 14th annual concert, at the Music Hall in Portsmouth, supports affordable housing development. There will be laughter from both sides of the political spectrum as they take on D.C. like never before. No matter who is in the headlines, the Capitol Steps are equal opportunity offenders. The 96th Annual Newport Winter Carnival will be held at various locations throughout Newport, but on Sunday, the week-long event begins with a torch lighting at Little Common following by a scavenger hunt at the Bandstand. There will also be a world record snowman building attempt at the high school football field (let's hope there's enough snow). Come be a part of it! During the week other activities include a fying pan/Christmas tree toss, a pickle ball tournament, sporting events, cardboard races, ski joring and a strongman competition. The New Hampshire Farm and Forest Expo will be held at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester this weekend. This expo is considered "New Hampshire's Greatest Winter Fair" and it does live up to its name. With the infamous FARMO game for kids of all ages, great exhibitors to visit, and interesting education sessions, you'll be sure to learn something this weekend. Admission is $7 per person. | The Eagles have landed Saturday, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. |
Come see the Eagles along the Merrimack, an outdoor walkalong presented by the Amoskeag Fishways in Manchester. Be sure to dress warm and bring binoculars if possible because, you will be on the lookout for these majestic creatures. Eagles fly south in the winter as Canadian waters freeze over and for years the birds have made their home along the Merrimack River. Come trek along and learn about them and their habitats. Fourteen time Grammy Award winner Ricky Skaggs will perform this weekend at the Flying Monkey Movie House and Performance Center in Plymouth. Skaggs is well known for both his country music classics and his bluegrass hits. In 1997, he opened his own record label and has since released 12 consecutive Grammy nominated classics. He has won a total of 8 ACM Awards, 8 CMA Awards and just celebrated his 50th year in the entertainment industry. Tickets are $45-55. • More info |

Another weekend, another Cranapalooza. On Saturday afternoon, Cranmore Mountain Resport in North Conway comes alive with a festival of music, visits from C-More the Cranmore Mountain mascot, plenty of family fun events from tubing to mountain coaster rides, Every weekend offers different entertainment but they frequently have puppet shows, face painting and of course - S'mores around a bonfire. The Adam Ezra Group has been compared to the Dave Matthews Band, and also a hipper version of Dan Fogelberg. They will be performing at Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry this weekend. If you've never seen them before, this is your chance to check them out. They are known for their acoustic roots/rock sound combining smart well-written lyrics and powerful musicianship. Come experience the Winter Carnival at Peadbody Mill Environmental Center in Amherst this weekend. The event will feature maple syrup on snow, storytelling, an animal in winter demonstration (which teaches about skins and tracks), a winter dog safety talk, nature based winter crafts and more. Then you can venture outside for a snow shoe hike, sled races, painting on snow, a snowball toss, a bonfire with S'mores and a Winter Sky Watch. Registration is required. The New Hampshire Roller Derby's 2012 HaARRRtbreaker's Ball will be held this weekend at the Bounty Lounge in Nashua. This pirate-themed Valentine's Day bash is a costume party and fundraiser. Some of the funds will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Nashua. Bring your best pirate costume and character and you might win a prize for best costume. There will also be raffles, auctions and contests. Admission is $10. You must be 21 to enter. • More Info |
