Salem teen expected to plead guilty in child porn case
BRENTWOOD — A Salem teenager with a history of sexual offenses is expected to plead guilty to charges that he attempted to possess child pornography.
Zachary Gray, 19, of 1 Lancelot Court is expect to return to court Feb. 21 to enter his guilty plea in Rockingham County Superior Court, according to indictments made public this week.
He is facing four counts of attempted possession of child pornography.
Gray was scheduled to go on trial the week of Jan. 9. The trial was cancelled and Judge Kenneth McHugh scheduled Gray for a plea and sentencing hearing instead, according to court records.
Indictments say Gray had the images — which depicted young girls engaging in various sexual acts — on Dec. 15.
A probation officer found 22 images on Gray’s computer during a routine check at his house, according to court documents.
At least five of those images were of girls “clearly” under the age of 13, documents say.
Each of the new charges are Class B felonies, which carry a potential 3 ½ to 7 years in state prison.
Terms of the plea have not been made public. Gray has already been convicted of sex-related offenses in Salem.
He was sentenced to six months in jail after he was convicted on October 2009 of having forcible sex with a 14-year-old girl and threatening another woman with a knife, a court affidavit says.
The woman was walking in the woods near Market Basket along Route 28 when she was threatened by Gray, according to court records.
He was convicted on felony charges of sexual assault and criminal threatening, according to court documents.
He was also found guilty earlier that year of a misdemeanor simple assault charge, but was initially charged with a misdemeanor sexual assault charge, according to court documents.
Gray remains free on bail since his arrest.
