Man tried to abduct student at school bus stop

GOFFSTOWN - Police are stepping up patrols at school bus stops after a man tried to grab a middle school student Wednesday morning near Warren Avenue and Eden Street.

Capt. Robert C. Browne said the girl missed her bus and was walking back home about 7:55 a.m. in the Pinardville section of town when a small, four-door green car pulled up next to her. The man driving the car asked her if she needed a ride, then reached out the window and grabbed her by the jacket.

Police said the student lost her balance, hit her face on the side door and fell to the ground. The man immediately drove off.

The driver is described as a white man, about 30 to 40 years of age with a stubble beard and a prominent, large scar across his forehead.

Browne said police contacted schools and notified the school superintendent's office about the attempted abduction. Parents were notified by email of the incident and, Browne said, a letter also is being sent home with students concerning it.

Police also issued a composite drawing of the driver. Browne said the student was happy with the depiction although she believes the man in the drawing appears younger than how she remembers him.

Police are asking the public for help in identifying anyone who was in the area at the time or anyone who may fit the driver's description. Anyone with information is asked to call Browne at 497-4858.
