Lipizzaner Stallions The “World Famous Lipizzaner Stallions” show high-steps back into the Whittemore Center Arena on the University of New Hampshire’s Durham campus at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10.

In the past four decades, more than 26 million people throughout North and South America, Europe, Australia and Hawaii have watched the dancing white stallions in action.

The program helps preserve a 400-year tradition as an equestrian work of art, a sort of equine ballet that harkens back to a time when the horse was a symbol of grace and majesty.

Maneuvers, including the leaps in the “Airs Above the Ground,” were born in the fury of the battlefield and today reflect the teachings of the Spanish Riding School of Vienna in Austria.

While maintaining a classical presentation of the Lipizzaner, show officials also feature the forefather of the breed, the Spanish Andalusian. Another departure from tradition is a rousing number set to the big band music of the swing era.

Many of the horses and riders who appear in this edition of the show were hand-picked by producer Gary Lashinsky, and choreography and music project an emphasis on the historical background and foundation of the Lipizzaner, from its original breeding and use as a horse of war to a horse of nobility and aristocracy to a living form of equestrian art.

The conclusion of the show will be the Grand Quadrille, featuring six to eight Lipizzaner stallions and riders performing an intricate dressage dance, marching, prancing and weaving their way across the floor to the music of the masters.

Tickets to the Lipizzaner Stallions show range from $20 to $28, with a $2 discount for those younger than 12 or age 60 and older. For more information, log onto www.whittemorecenter.com or www.ticketmaster.com or call (800) 745-3000.
