Located across from Hillside Middle School, Jerome’s has been at the Bridge Street location for several years. There is a Londonderry location that has been open since 2000, and while we’ve never been to that one, it does have the same menu and prices.
The Dining Companion: I first heard of Jerome’s Deli when I started dating someone who lived not too far from Bridge Street and when I’d ask her if I could pick something up, she’d ask me to stop and pick her up something from there. Never did I try to talk her out of it, as I too liked their variety of items.
OG: The Bridge Street location has a handful of parking spaces on the side — about one for each table inside. It’s a great place to pick up a sandwich to go — or to eat there, as we like to do at lunch time.
They have a nice variety of sandwiches, most at $6.50. There is also a “kids’” menu that has my favorite — egg salad ($5.95). Jerome’s makes one of the best egg salads around — always fresh with coarsely chopped eggs and just the right amount of mayonnaise and seasoning. Served on thick white bread, it’s the ultimate comfort food. It makes me feel like a kid again — although as a kid I didn’t actually like egg salad. Go figure.
TDC: On a recent trip I ordered a steak tip wrap ($6.50) filled with some of the most flavorful grilled tips I’ve had in a long time, sweet carmelized onions and melted American cheese. It was just full of flavor and I will order it again — but then I’ve tried most of the sandwiches at Jerome’s and there’s many of them I would order again.
OG: Jerome’s also has a cold case with an always-changing variety of ready-made heat-and-eat food, which we gave a try recently. Among the items we brought home was an Italian pie, which had bowtie pasta with salami, meatballs and ricotta in a lasagna-like pie ($4.50/pound). It had a delicious marinara sauce, which mixed with the ricotta made the dish rich and creamy. An interesting and flavorful sausage and the meatballs added to the blend of flavors for a tasty and filling meal.
TDC: We also ordered Southwestern shrimp egg rolls ($1.50 each) and cheeseburger egg rolls ($1.50 each) The Southwestern egg rolls were a little taste of Arizona with a delicious spicy bite. The cheeseburger egg rolls sounded strange when we ordered, but were a tasty meat roll of hamburger, onions and beef all rolled up in a small tortilla like a mini egg roll or burrito. If pressed, however, the shrimp are my favorites.
OG: So, we’ve established that the food at Jerome’s is good and the prices reasonable. One of the other things I like about going there is that it’s a nice neighborhood eatery and every time we go there the staff is professional and friendly. It’s a great place to stop in at in the morning for a muffin and coffee, for lunch or for a take-home dinner — all of which makes it one of our favorite places.
