Amare Cantare, a Seacoast chamber chorus, will perform an eclectic mix of holiday music in three area concerts.
They will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church, 98 Summer St., Portsmouth; 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph’s Church, 150 Central Ave., Dover; and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Christ Church, 43 Pine St., Exeter.
These unaccompanied choral performances will include Eric Whitacre’s “Alleluia” and works by well-known composers such as Vaughan Williams and Peter Warlock.
The program also will contrast the styles of two lesser-known composers: the 17th-century Italian composer Isabella Leonarda and contemporary Maine composer Erica Quin-Easter.
“There is perhaps no other time of year that choral music plays such a central role in our lives,” said Catherine Beller-McKenna, the ensemble’s music director. “Each year, Amare Cantare assembles a collection of holiday choral music that draws on what is familiar while also introducing audiences to wonderful pieces they may not have heard before.”
Tickets to the shows are $12 in advance and $15 at the door, with student and senior tickets costing $10-$12. Visit www.amarecantare.org
