GOFFSTOWN — Apopeca may be a “pop-up store,” but the decorations, gifts and antiques you’ll find there are the familiar things of which holiday memories are made.

Located at 9 Church St., Apopeca is across the parking lot from Apotheca Flower and Tea Shoppe. If the names sound oddly similar, maybe it’s because they share a founder, Alyssa Van Guilder, and the same staff.

Van Guilder, the creative director for Apotheca, says the pop-up store is an offshoot of a holiday artisan festival formerly held at the cafe and flower shop.

This year, Van Guilder said, she and staff wanted to bring it back, so earlier this month Apopeca had its soft opening.

The store offers an eclectic selection of gifts, decorations and other treasures sourced from local artisans, antique dealers and buyers.

“We missed being able to feature (them),” Van Guilder said. “The beauty of it is it’s very much a collaboration. It’s really not just Apotheca.”

Pop-up stores — temporary retail spaces that set up for seasonal or event-oriented sales — have become a $50 billion industry, according to PopUp Republic, a company that promotes the concept for small and large companies nationwide. They often have novel designs, such as a giant shoebox built for an Adidas pop-up store, according to a PopUp Republic image featured at

Feedback from the community at Saturday’s Apopeca grand opening was great, Van Guilder said. During the event, visitors learned to make holiday ornaments.

Van Guilder has an eye to continue the concept, possibly at a different location with additional space to accommodate workshops and other activities.

“That part, in particular, we are really hoping to continue,” she said. “For now, our plan is to just focus on the holiday season.”

Apopeca will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays until Dec. 31.
