NEWPORT — Anticipating strong interest again this year in the Peeps Diorama Contest, the Library Arts Center is planning to display the contest entries for a full week after the Peeps Party and award ceremony.

“We’ve extended it because it’s been so popular, we’re going to have it open longer,” said Arts Center executive director Kate Niboli.

The Library Arts Center plans to hold its third annual Peeps Diorama Contest next week. The deadline for contest entries is 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 17.

All community members from children, adults, school classrooms, businesses, families, artists and non-artists alike are invited to join the contest by creating fun, light-hearted dioramas out of marshmallow Peeps candies.

The dioramas will be unveiled Friday, April 18, at 5 p.m. at the annual Peeps Party, where prizes will be awarded in three categories, as well as awards for “Best in Peeps” and the “Peep-les Choice Award.”

Last year diorama themes varied from the announcement of the new Peep at Saint Peepers Basilica, Peepers enjoying the slopes of Mount SunaPeep, to a Peeps Zombie Attack.

“There’s no theme and it’s always just incredible to see what people come up with,” Niboli said.

After Friday’s Peeps Party, the Peeps dioramas will remain on display at the gallery from Saturday, April 19, to Saturday, April 26.

Dioramas, registration forms and the $3 entry fee should be delivered to the gallery at 58 North Main Street between Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Peeps-themed refreshments and a peeps s’mores roasted outdoors will be served at the Peeps Party on Friday.
