ROCHESTER – Police are looking for a man who robbed George & Ed's convenience store on North Main Street Monday.
Police responded around 8 a.m. after a clerk reported that the man, who wielded a silver handgun, demanded money from the register. He took an undisclosed amount of money and fled on foot, heading north along North Main Street.
Maple Street School and Saint Elizabeth Seton School were both placed in a "soft lockdown" for less than two hours while officers, with the help of the department's K-9 team, searched the area.
"The lockdown has been lifted as police do not feel the public is in any danger at this time," police said.
Police continue to investigate and are following up on information obtained by the police dog track, other undisclosed evidence and from witness statements.
While the man has not been located, he is described as being white, between 5-10 and six feet tall and of average build. He was wearing a black jacket over a gray hooded sweatshirt, which covered his head, a mask over his face, dark-colored pants with a white stripe and dark sneakers, according to police.
