Walmart looks to Rindge to approve expansion
Walmart officials expect to meet with the Planning Board Jan. 7, seeking site plan approval.
The proposed expansion would add 42,000 square feet to the existing 76,148 square-foot Walmart that sits on 17 acres off Route 202.
The expansion and preliminary designs were first proposed to the Planning Board in 2011.
Planners said they were concerned about the soil and water flow based on the proposed location of a waste water treatment plant to serve the larger building, without a detailed plan required by the town for the proposed waste water treatment plant.
Monday Smith said Walmart officials have met with the Planning Board several times since and hashed out major aspects of the site plan such as wetlands, traffic and drainage issues.“I think the site plan approval at this point is whittled down to a few basic issues,” Smith said, primarily the size and appearance of the signs and whether there would be sidewalk sales and/or storage.
Rindge, on the Massachusetts border, already has Market Basket and Hannaford supermarkets on Route 202.
