October 24. 2013 9:45PM

Police responding to a report of a disturbance at 77 Hecker St. Wednesday morning found the building owner and his contractor had blocked in a vehicle they suspected was used in an earlier theft of two refrigerators from the property.

Officer Eric Desmarais noted storm windows in the open trunk of the car, whose driver was identified as Johnny Almonte, 33, of Manchester. Officer Brian Karoul identified Almonte’s passenger as Michael Filamond, 18, also of Manchester.

Officers were told that when the owner and contractor saw Almonte and Filamond taking material from a pile in the driveway, they noticed two refrigerators, valued at $750 each, were missing from the driveway. They immediately suspected Almonte and Filamond of taking the refrigerators. Desmarais said he’d seen Almonte’s vehicle earlier Wednesday at Main and Putnam streets with two refrigerators strapped to the roof and trunk. There were scratches on Almonte’s roof and trunk and Desmarais confirmed Almonte had just sold two refrigerators to a salvage yard on Allard Drive.Almonte and Filamond were arrested and charged with felony theft.

Police are also investigating the reported theft of a Maytag washer and dryer from 100 Orange St. between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday. A neighbor reported seeing the appliances in the back of a green Toyota pickup that left the area.
