AG holds off releasing name of man killed by Weare police

August 16. 2013 11:16PM

WEARE — Authorities continued Friday to refuse to release the identity of a man shot and killed Wednesday by Weare police officers.

“We are not releasing that at this time,” Assistant Attorney General Susan G. Morrell said.

Morrell said authorities have yet to notify family members of the man. The day before she had said the information would be available on Friday.

On Thursday she said that an undercover drug buy was to take place at Dunkin’ Donuts at Lanctot’s Plaza on Route 114 about 10 p.m. Wednesday. Several Weare police officers, two confidential informants and the alleged male target of the investigation were in the plaza.

However, the deal went sour and the target tried to drive away, authorities said. Two officers fired their weapons, wounding the man as he drove off in a green Acura, which crashed just south of the plaza. The officers involved in the shooting were put on paid administrative leave pending an investigation, which authorities said could take several weeks.

Morrell did not say when the victim’s name would be made public.
