MANCHESTER —— A woman who objected to being asked to leave a city nightspot at closing time got into a tussle with a city police officer early Sunday morning and ended up jolted by a Taser and charged with a felony.
City police were called to WR Taverna, a Merrimack Street night club, at about 1:30 Sunday morning. The proprietor was complaining that closing time had come and gone and a group of revelers refused to leave.
Officer Mark Aquino responded and attempted to convince a male patron to leave. Police said the man’s female companion attacked Aquino twice. She was identified as Irene Alvarado, 24, of Manchester,
Aquino reported that Alvarado then attempted to grab his service revolver and was subdued through the use of a department-issued Taser stun device.
Alvarado was charged with attempting to take a gun from a law enforcement officer, a class B felony, as well as obstructing government operations and two counts of simple assault.
She was released on $1,000 cash bail and is due to appear in Manchester District Court on Aug. 21.
