LONDONDERRY — Local travelers can expect some detours this summer as work crews once again descend on Litchfield Road.
Plans for the project, which will replace an entire section of worn-out roadway, were announced earlier this spring, giving locals plenty of time to prepare, Assistant Public Works Director John Trottier said last week.
“Hopefully, this helped people to plan ahead,” said Trottier, who noted that the road project would be ongoing through September.
The stretch of roadway between Misty Lane and High Range Road will be closed periodically throughout the next few months, with traffic detours to be put into effect at those times.
Traffic will be rerouted south of Litchfield Road to Shasta Road, or north of Litchfield Road to Hall Road.
Another portion of Litchfield Road had been repaired last summer, as well as repairs on Auburn and Wilson roads.
Voters at the March 2013 polls overwhelmingly approved Article 12 — the $250,000 Roadway Maintenance Trust Fund item — with 1,248 voters in favor and 746 voting against.
The current fiscal year began July 1.
Londonderry Public Works Director Janusz Czyzowski previously said the town received $500,000 in state highway block grants to be used towards shim and overlay, guardrail repair, crack sealing, road striping, ditch cleaning and tree trimming.
In addition to repairing the final sections of Litchfield Road, other major summer road projects are scheduled on Nelson and Stokes roads.
Resident Mary Tetreau said traffic was a bit slower than normal while traveling down Pillsbury Road earlier this week, where work crews were installing a new guardrail near Ash Street.
“That slowed things down a bit, but no big deal,” she said.
