Reliever Joel Carreno and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats coughed up a three-run lead and the Sea Dogs pulled into a 4-4 tie with them in the top of the ninth inning on Wednesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

The Fisher Cats then turned things right around and scored a run on a sacrifice in their half of the inning for a 5-4 win. New Hampshire won its second straight over the Sea Dogs and its third straight overall, matching its season-high win streak.

The Fisher Cats will try to finish off a sweep of the three-game series when they face the Sea Dogs again tonight at Northeast Delta at 7:05.

Ricardo Nanita led off the Fisher Cat ninth inning with a single and Amadeo Zazueta came on to run for him. Zazueta moved to second when Ryan Schimpf earned a walk from Portland reliever Will Latimer and third on Clint Robinson’s ground out. He scored on Brad Glenn’s sacrifice fly to center.

The Fisher Cats improved to 19-21 and division leading Portland fell to 22-15.

New Hampshire pitching, which had put up two straight shutouts, got another strong outing from a starter. Deck McGuire gave up six hits and one run over six innings. He struck out eight and walked two.

The Fisher Cats got a pair of runs off struggling former Red Sox pitcher Daniel Bard. He came on in the sixth and walked the first two batters he faced. He threw a wild pitch to John Tolisano to advance the runners and Tolisano then singled to knock in a run. The other run scored as Portland completed a double play.

Bard induced a ground out to get out of the inning, but then walked the first three batters in the seventh and Latimer came on to replace him.

Tolisano and Nanita were the only Fisher Cats with hits and each had a pair: Tolisano a home run and a single and Nanita a double and a single.
