Time to move your bobhouse

CONCORD -- It's no joke: The Fish and Game Department is reminding ice fishermen the deadline for removing all bobhouses from the ice is April 1.

The structures also cannot be left on public or private property without permission, Fish and Game advised.

The law is designed to ensure that bobhouses and their contents don't fall through the ice and become a hazard to boaters or get left behind on shore, explained Sgt. Dave Eskeland of the agency's law enforcement division.

Failure to remove a bobhouse by the deadline can result in a fine and a one-year loss of the owner's fishing license. In cases where conservation officers cannot identify the bobhouse owner, Fish and Game has the authority to seize any bobhouse and its contents not removed by the deadline, Eskeland said.

For more information, contact the local conservation officer or Fish and Game's law enforcement division at 271-3127.
