Two Vermont residents dead, a third charged with DWI, following head-on collision in Croydon

CROYDON — Two Vermont residents are dead, and a third has been charged with negligent homicide and aggravated DWI, after a head-on collision on Route 10 Friday night.
State police identified the victims as Michelle J. Fenimore, 20, of Brownington, Vt., and her passenger, Nicholas Carpenter, 18, of Coventry, Vt.
The two were in a Volvo S80 heading southbound around 11:15 p.m. when a Hyundai Sonata driven northbound by Kristin Lake, 22, of Sharon, Vt., drifted into the other lane, according to state police. Police said Fenimore tried to avoid the oncoming car but the two vehicles collided head-on.
Fenimore and Carpenter were pronounced dead at the scene.
Lake suffered minor injuries and was arrested on two counts of aggravated DWI and negligent homicide, according to state police. She was released on $50,000 personal recognizance and will be arraigned on Oct. 3 in Newport district court.
