April 21. 2018 8:17PM

SANDWICH — New Hampshire Fish and Game assisted a group of hikers who lost their way Friday night while descending Mt. Whiteface.

Sophia Lattes, 22, of Boulder, Colo., Shale Hunter, 21, of Medford, Mass., and Max Migdail of San Francisco were on the last leg of a hike over the summits of Mt. Passaconaway and Mt. Whiteface when they called 911 for help about 9 p.m.

The trio were descending Mt. Whiteface on the Mccrillis Trail in Sandwich when they lost their way on a particularly steep section of the mountain, they told first responders.

While rescuers were hiking in to assist them, the group was able to find the trail on their own, Fish and Game said. The rescue team met them about 2.7 miles from the trailhead and they walked out together about 1:10 a.m. Saturday morning.
