Seth Meyers' son born in his apartment building lobbyFrom Wire Reports April 10. 2018 10:24PM
An emotional "Late Night" host Seth Meyers launched Monday's show by welcoming his newborn son Axel Strahl Meyers to the world -- and thanking his wife Alexi Ashe for another "rock star"-style delivery.
After brunch, a walk in the park and feeding his 2-year-old son Ashe, Meyers recalled that his mother-in-law came downstairs and shouted, "We have to go to the hospital now!"
By the time they called an Uber and got to the lobby of their Greenwich Village apartment building, the baby was already making a dramatic entrance.
"My wife just says, ‘I can't get in the car. I'm going to have the baby right now.'
"She was right. My wife is saying, 'The baby is coming! The baby is out!'" said Meyers, adding that his wife "looked like someone who was hiding a baby in a pair of sweatpants. It was like someone was trying to sneak a baby on a plane."
Over the course of a minute-long call to 911, Meyers said he went from "We're about to have a baby. We're having a baby. We had a baby."
Meyers, who grew up in Bedford, N.H., ticked off a list of people he wanted to thank: the doormen in their building, the police officers and firefighters who showed up to help, the doctors. Then he added a bleeped-out expletive directed at “the Uber driver who charged me.”
The company later refunded the cost of the ride.
