KEENE — Police are investigating the Friday night robbery of a Greenfield, Mass., man in the parking lot of the CVS Pharmacy on West Street in Keene, officials said.

A man was seen after the incident fleeing the scene on foot, heading southwest through parking lots toward the bike path behind Panera Bread.

He was wearing a gray shirt and a flat brimmed hat and had displayed a handgun as he carried out the robbery, police officials said.

Jose Martinez, 32, told police he had been robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash and a cell phone.

Keene police officials said there was no reason for the public to be alarmed.

Investigators believe this was not a random act of violence and that the robber and victim knew each other.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has further information is urged to contact the Keene Police Department at 357-9813 and to speak to Detective Joel Chidester who is leading the investigation.
