BEDFORD — State officials have issued a lake warning after high levels of cyanobacteria were discovered at Sebbins Pond in Bedford.
“Based on visual evidence, the cyanobacteria bloom is accumulating in coves throughout the pond, appearing as dark blue-green globs,” the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services said in a statement.
While the state threshold for a warning or advisory is 70,000 cells/ml of cyanobacteria, DES said it is estimated that more than 30 million cells have been discovered.
“NHDES advises lake users to avoid contact with the water in areas experiencing elevated cyanobacteria cell conditions, typically where lake water has a surface scum …,” states a release, which adds that pets should also be kept out of the water.
