What is the best career advice you ever received?
Find a mess and make a difference. People take notice when you tackle a project that nobody else wants to do. It’s a great way to stand out.
Why did you choose your profession?
I was in the community bank space for 19 years and truly enjoyed helping people and being part of the community. Now as a business owner operating in the heart of the downtown community, I am able to continue this in an even more meaningful way. It’s really a dream come true.
What motivates you to give back to your community?
I was born and raised in Dover. I am a proud graduate of Dover High School and have been a steadfast advocate for the city my entire life. I have made lifelong friends as a result of being involved in community initiatives and volunteering with several non-profits. I want more than anything for my hometown to continue to be strong, economically sound, safe and sustainable for future generations. I enjoy doing my part to make this happen.
What advice would you give your 22-year-old self?
No job, boss, title, etc. is as important as your self-worth. Never compromise your integrity.
What would make New Hampshire more attractive to young professionals?
I think the younger workforce is particularly interested in working for companies that are socially conscious and provide opportunities for a manageable work-life balance. There is a great effort underway in New Hampshire to attract and retain a younger workforce, and I hope it continues. I believe this effort will ultimately result in more companies starting in or relocating to New Hampshire as well.
What would you like to be doing when you’re 40?
That’s just about 9 months away. I’m so content and proud to be a business owner in my hometown. I’m looking forward to finding new and innovative ways for my business to grow while continuing to support our community. I’m also hoping for a trip to Italy for my 40th birthday. Can someone please tell my husband?
What was your last major achievement?
Graduate student of the Gemological Institute of America.
Volunteer activities: Board member — Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce, Seacoast Educational Endowment Dover; Cocheco Valley Humane Society; Participant — Tri for a Cure.
